A pediatric dentist differs from other dentists in that he or she has been through additional years of rigorous training specifically for his or her particular field. Pediatric dentistry is concerned with providing specialized dental care for the young from the early stages of baby tooth development up through the teenage years.

While dental practitioners of every type such as general dentists, orthodontists and oral surgeons, a great deal of time is spent studying dental medicine. But a pediatric dentist gains special experience and advanced knowledge in treating infants and children. Our dental office and staff are oriented toward young visitors and you’ll find that we have designed our practice around children and promote a friendly and comfortable environment for kids.

You may be wondering when your baby should first see the dentist. The advice from the ADA is schedule an appointment to see the dentist within 6 months of the appearance of the first tooth or by one year of age, whichever comes first. The initial visit is relatively simple and brief. We will spend time getting to know your child and relaying basic information about pediatric dental care. The dentist will examine your baby’s teeth for proper placement and oral health, and make sure there are no issues with the development of the gums or jaw.
