Because children are too young to brush their teeth themselves, it’s best for the parents to deeply clean their child’s smile regularly. To help you do so, our St. George Kids Dental team has provided the following tooth-brushing instructions for you:

-Step 1: When you brush your child’s smile, it’s best to use a soft-bristled, child-sized toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle toward the gums of the upper and lower teeth.

-Step 2: Move the toothbrush gently in a back-and-forth motion. Use short strokes and move the brush along the teeth and gums. Use this technique to clean every tooth in the smile. Also, make sure you clean the outer and inner surfaces of the teeth.

-Step 3: To clean the insides of the front teeth, tilt the toothbrush in an upright position and use the tip to clean the surfaces. By doing this, you should be able to reach behind the front teeth on the top and bottom jaws.

-Step 4: After you are done brushing the teeth, make sure you brush your child’s tongue to remove the bacteria that reside there.

If you follow these steps, your child will grow into the strong, healthy, and beautiful smile they deserve.
