If you want your baby to have the top-notch smile and oral health they deserve, then it’s important to properly clean and care for their teeth and gums each day. This means you need to help them keep up with oral hygiene. To help you do so, our pediatric dentists, Dr. Trent Pryor and Dr. Jeff Higbee, have some instructions for you. It’s best to do the following things to keep their smile in tip-top shape:

-Clean their gums after each feeding (If they don’t have teeth yet): This is a simple task that just involves wiping your baby’s gums with a wet, clean washcloth. This will help you wash bacteria away before they can cause problems.

-Brush their teeth twice a day: You should do this with a child’s soft-bristled toothbrush or a little finger toothbrush and water. You can also use child’s toothpaste that is free of fluoride and is safe to swallow. Make sure you scrub your child’s teeth every morning and night.

-Bring your child into our office: You should bring your child into our office six months after their first tooth erupts or around their first birthday. This is recommended because our dental team can examine your child’s smile and make sure everything is in tip-top shape. It can also give us a chance to give you the oral hygiene tips you need specific to your child’s oral health situation.
