Developing a cavity is a common part of childhood. Even though you as a parent try your best to make sure that your child brushes and flosses on a regular basis, cavities can still develop in your child’s baby teeth. Don’t feel bad, these things happen. Children can often miss places while brushing. It’s an honest mistake and can be easily treated with a dental filling.

Explaining to your child why they will need to see their dentist, Dr. Trent Pryor at St. George Kids Dental for their dental filling can be difficult. Children are naturally scared of visiting the dentist and you may find calming them to be troublesome. We understand the concerns of you and your child and that’s why we are here to advise on how to prepare your child for their visit.

Be relaxed when telling your child about their dental filling treatment. Children are perceptive and can pick on any anxieties you may have regarding their treatment. If you have any anxiety about their treatment, hide it from them when talking to them.

Be positive! While this may seem like the same thing, we are referring more to the way you verbally express your feelings regarding the situation. Avoid blaming your child for their cavity by saying things such as “This wouldn’t have happened if you brushed better”. Gently let your child know that Dr. Trent Pryor is going to treat their cavity and it will be better soon.
